It was at a talk by O.E. Wilson that someone from SBBG was inspired to do the same. In fact the scientists wish they had done it 60 years ago, because they would have data to compare and to judge what is going on. I forgot to add a link to an interview in a local newspaper that has a good review of the BioBlitz.
