ARKive
“A vast treasury of wildlife images has been steadily accumulating over the past century, yet no one has known its full extent - or indeed its gaps - and no one has had a comprehensive way of gaining access to it. ARKive will put that right, and it will be an invaluable tool for all concerned with the well-being of the natural world.”

“ARKive is a noble project - one of the most valuable in all biology and conservation practice.”

“Your image of the black skimmer resting really complements this profile as it adds a behavioural dimension that is so seldom photographed so well. I am very grateful to you for allowing ARKive to include it on our site.”
Only one image - but an honor nonetheless. Click on image to see black skimmer collection.

Great job, Lynn! I’m sure there will be more in your future.

Thanks Mary. I posted it to also let others know about it. ARKive is a Wildscreen initiative, whose principal sponsers are Animal Planet, BBC and Conservation International.

I first heard about Wildscreen from a video blog (vlog?) called WildCast.net, updated daily with animal videos from Zimbabwe by filmmaker Kim Wolhuter.

Last year it was very sad to see that a pack of wild dogs died of rabies (introduced into this area by non-native animals). By some very good fortune, another pair of wild dogs moved onto the property and produced a large, healthy litter of pups this year. When they were old enough, they were vaccinated against rabies. Hopefully, they will all live full lives to breed and increase the very low numbers of wild dogs worldwide.
